Update for Year End 2016
Entering our 21st year we’re excited to both look back and ahead. Celebrating twenty years of “Making a Heartfelt Difference” in 2016 created opportunities to see long-time friends and welcome new ones, all gathered around the mission of compassionately providing high quality health care that people can afford. Our summer celebration found us gathered around the main entrance, still a blue door! Although the present door is a different shade of blue, the tradition began in 1996 when neighbors encouraged each other to “get your health care behind the blue door,” located on the basement level of Saint Alphonsus Church. Last August, when we gathered at the newer blue door, we heard founders Paul Haan and Helen Lehman remind us of obstacles and encourage us to never stop offering hope to the community. We were challenged by Fr. Pat Grile if Saint Alphonsus to re-dedicate ourselves to the mission and work that remains inspired by the example of Catherine McCauley, our namesake.
Generous individuals, families, foundations, churches, businesses and associations provided the financial means for us to offer hope and help to people who need access to health care. We are deeply grateful for support from so many who, by their generosity, confirm their participation in our mission and work. In the fall we greeted 150 friends for our Open Door Luncheon and were again inspired as friends and guests responded generously.
2016 also found us welcoming a new provider, Stacie Cocke, PA. Stacie has taken her place with Dr. Walen and Debra Bossenbroek to help individuals and families who need medical care. We are pleased to have her on board.
Our board and leadership team worked diligently all year long with no let-up as the new year dawns. Their intent and commitment is to position Catherine’s for extended service to the community and to configure every aspect in the best possible way to advance our mission.
The year closed with uncertainty over the future of health care policy and funding. We choose to remain committed to assuring that, with the help of a generous and compassionate community, people will have an open door to quality care.
